Christmas away from home for the first time.

In the hustle and bustle of everyday life, beauty can be separated from us. Only by living in a time can we experience our amazing environment. Sometimes traveling to a new and pleasant place helps us pay attention to our surroundings.

Christmas Away from Home

My husband and oldest daughter, Angie, were my traveling companions when we left Grand Rapids, Michigan on the morning of December 24. It was the start of the first snowstorm that year. At 7 in the morning, we had 3-inch-thick snow and more on our way. I keep thinking Oh, please let us get out of Michigan! If we can get off the ground in Michigan, we might escape the storm and get to our destination safely – Las Vegas. Sure enough, the flight was on time and we arrived in Las Vegas at 11am. We had a nice lunch (in 60 degree weather) and did an excursion.

It was fun and enjoyable to spend Christmas away from home for the first time. Well organized travel plans – of course by me! We plan to drive to Koosharem, Utah on Christmas to pick up our youngest daughter, Vanessa, from school. It was a five hour drive from Las Vegas, but we planned to spend three days with him in a hotel not far from his school. We will then return it to school, return to Las Vegas, spend two days there, and fly home to Michigan.

Knowing that we would drive most of Christmas, we went to the Christmas Eve Mass in Las Vegas. It was a new and interesting experience – the church is very modern in design (somewhat unusual for a Catholic church) but beautiful, bright and colorful. There is a male soloist who has an extraordinary voice – we can listen to it all night! He really helped create the tone of the entire mass. I can still hear his voice singing praise to God.

Drive through Nevada and Utah

We went to bed early that night because we had to get up at 5 in the morning on Christmas. The journey through Nevada and to Utah went smoothly – no snow or ice! The Nevada mountains look like a large haystack in the distance. There are many barren highways but mountains march in the sky like a painted picture. When the sun rises on Christmas, a beautiful sight to behold! The three of us were amazed when a ray of sunlight appeared on the mountain peak. Then rise higher until it looks bright above the highest peak.

In Utah the temperature is in one digit. No problem, the view is beautiful – our Lord is a great artist. Entering Utah we were welcomed by a large rock formation. Several times while driving, we saw bald eagles perched on jagged rocks, watching their territory. We passed mountains that looked like rainbows – the colors of pink, gray and orange stones.

We arrived at Vanessa’s location at noon, picked her up, and then drove half an hour to Richfield, Utah. We spent three days there in a comfortable hotel. There isn’t much to do so we ………… shop! That was fun. For three days we shopped, went to a movie, ate out and relaxed. Nice to meet Vanessa again.

Fitness Test in the Nevada Mountains

The next journey begins after returning Vanessa to school. We drove back to Las Vegas and, again, weather in the 60’s. Our evenings were spent on the Strip, but we decided to spend a full day hiking and rock climbing in the Valley of Fire state park. The park is located about 45 minutes from Las Vegas.

It’s very beautiful, I think about it almost everyday. I now understand why the territory of the United States was called the “God Country”. We admire large caves and layered rock formations; large stones with pink, gray, blue and yellow. It looked like a large rainbow that stretched toward the horizon. We got off the beaten path, walked straight down the mountain, and spent nearly five hours climbing the cliff and crawling inside the cave. Over and over we passed a large rock, squeezing between the narrow cracks in the rock. Boulders and jagged stones last for miles – and so do we!

Very amazing! We take videos, pictures and try to store whatever we can in our memories. We have equipment on our backs so our hands are free to climb. Our supplies include water, food bars, jackets, cameras and maps. (Well, the map isn’t good because we’re off track!). We climbed, climbed, and crawled for hours – on big rocks, slippery, loose rocks, and through colorful layered crevices. It seems that the more we climb, the closer we are to the horizon – so we keep going.

I have never seen such beauty – nature in its rarest and rougher form. I enjoy every adventure. It was getting late so we decided to turn around and return to the mountain to the main road. We followed the chalk arrows but climbing back was a difficult task. The three of us felt victorious when we emerged from the top of the mountain. We were exhausted after we returned to our car – and it only hurt a little the next day!

New Awareness

The flight back to Michigan was smooth and we arrived to face 3 feet of snow. However, we have a new appreciation for its beauty. Actually, there is a deeper awareness about everything. What a feeling of euphoria – being able to slow down, look around, and soak in the grandeur of the environment! For me Submission Art, this adventure proves that nature makes me connect with myself and my environment. That’s the feeling I want to cherish forever.

Things That Can Make Your Travel Venture A Blast

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DrDv8tqXcAAocXa.jpg

Deciding where and how to travel can pose a few difficult questions and problems, even to the most savvy international traveler. This article describes a few sure-fire ways to book accommodations, plan trips, conduct business meetings on the road, and generally make the most of your sojourns outside the country.

Check out user reviews. The experiences of others who have traveled to the same location can be much more helpful than the biased sales information from the destination itself. Also, check out guest-contributed photos, which will be more real and less doctored than the professional photos. Be sure to look for recent reviews, and find ones written by people having similar vacation needs to your own.

When traveling by plane make sure you take every precaution you can to ensure smooth travels. You first want to make sure your luggage does not exceed the maximum weight requirements by the airlines. You also want to label all of your luggage so that there is no confusion with other passengers who have similar luggage to yours.

If you are going on a long plane ride and the person in the seat next to you has a lot to say, and you really don’t want to hear it, just pretend to nod off. When they see that you are sleeping, I would hope that they would get the idea and be quiet.

If you’re going on a road trip, bring an extra gallon of water with you. While you may think to bring bottled water, you probably wouldn’t think of bringing a jug. A gallon of water can be useful for brushing your teeth, washing sticky stuff off your hands, etc. You never know when you may need to wash your hands and not be close to a rest stop or worse, to be near a disgusting rest stop.

Show your loyalty. Even if you are only planning to stay one night, if your hotel has a loyalty program, it can be worth it to join. In addition to additional amenities, such as garment pressing or free meals, a guest who is perceived as a loyal customer is less likely to be chosen if the hotel is overbooked and needs to cancel a reservation or needs to substitute a lower quality room.

When you are traveling, try to pack everything in one carry-on bag. Airlines have started charging for things that they used to include in the price of your ticket, including checked bags, snacks and entertainment. There are two airlines that do not charge you to check bags, but they often have long waits at their baggage areas. You’ll save time and money if you can keep everything in a single bag.

America offers many natural parks, with many options for the adventure of your choosing. When deciding what park is right for you, first decide how you want to play. America’s natural parks offer an endless range of activities. You will find everything from volcanoes to white river rafting to a quiet stroll through the wilderness.

If you need a rental car for your trip, ask your travel agent which car rental companies are available while on your travels. There are different companies that serve different cities in the world. Using your travel agent will save you the effort and time, calling around, trying to find the best car and rate.

Make plans to participate in a scavenger hunt if you are traveling on a cruise ship. When going on vacation with a large group of family or friends, take the time to divide everyone up into teams and challenge them to find items or information. Not only will you have a good time, but everyone will learn a lot about the ship.

To get the most enjoyment while vacationing, make sure to take projected weather conditions into consideration. Check the forecast for your destination. Weather can ruin even the most thought out plans, and you may even put yourself in a dangerous position if you are not paying close attention to it.

When traveling with your pet, there are several items you need to remember to bring with you. You need to make sure your pet is always wearing a collar with your name and phone number on it. You will also need proof of vaccinations and any proper licenses. Last, but not least, you should travel with your pet’s favorite toys.

Make sure that you take enough prescription medication to last for the entire trip anytime you travel. You should always take some extra meds with you, just in case you are delayed or get stranded somewhere, for a long period of time. Bring your medication information along with you, as well, in case you need to get more from a pharmacy.

Make sure to plan out your routes prior to car trips to avoid getting caught in rush hour traffic. You can lose so much time on your trip by getting stuck in rush hour traffic. If there are no good main routes, try alternate routes and bypasses to avoid the road congestion.

When traveling on a road trip with children, be sure to pack games for the ride. The items should not weigh too much or be too difficult to clean up. Dry erase boards, cards and activity books are all excellent choices. You are much more likely to have a peaceful, enjoyable ride if your children stay entertained.

A great travel tip that can save you a lot of time is to pack your belongings into your car the night before you leave on a road trip. If you decide to pack all of your things the moment you leave, you’ll never leave by the time that you originally planned to leave.

A great travel tip if you’re going to go on a cruise is to put up something on your room door so that you can easily find it. A lot of the doors in cruise ships look the same so it’s easy to get lost. Having a picture or something on your door can make it stand out.

By adopting the foregoing strategies, you can make sure that your trips never disappoint. Whether you find yourself worrying about airline rates, ground transportation, hotel fees or any array of other complications, this article can guide you into making the right choices for your particular trip. Have fun, be safe and remember these tips.

Traveling is fun and exciting especially if you know where you are going. Many people make the mistake of assuming that they will be able to talk to the locals and get directions. You can use the tips that are provided below to avoid getting lost in a location that is new to you.

If you are traveling to another country brush up on that country’s laws. Some foreign countries have laws that you might view as a little strange or not expect. As a precaution, it is always a good idea to familiarize yourself with the laws specific to the place you are visiting.

A useful tip for travelers is to make certain to have sufficient health insurance in place to cover medical expenses in case of injury or illness while abroad. It is often the case that domestic health insurance policies do not provide extensive coverage for treatment and hospitalization in foreign countries. Therefore, it is important to procure such coverage for the entire duration of your trip.

Keep a group journal in your hotel room while traveling. Invest in something as inexpensive as a spiral notebook, and allow the people you are traveling with to write in it during down time. This will provide an interesting read later and will be a nice keepsake from your trip.

When traveling to tropical areas, always keep your dirty laundry in a closed bag. Hotels and homes in tropical parts of the world aren’t as bug-proof as most American homes. Dirty laundry will attract insects, especially ants, meaning that clothing that was simply dirty, is now completely unwearable for the rest of the trip.

If you’re traveling to a country where you’re likely to want to enjoy a bottle of wine, bring along your own corkscrew. If you don’t know the area or speak the language, tracking down a corkscrew just for that impromptu picnic can turn a relaxing afternoon into a harried scavenger hunt.

When traveling by car, always make sure you bring along a bag for trash. Even if you don’t plan on having meals in your car, the trash will build up surprisingly quickly. Having the bag ready will help you to keep your car neat and organized and make it easier to get rid of the trash when you stop.

Driving far in a car means consistently changing radio stations for ones that a clear. To solve this, make CDs or tapes with all of the group’s favorite songs so you can jam happily without distracting yourself by trying to find a clear station while driving. This also allows for you guys to listen to music non-stop rather then sit and wait for commercials to end.

Taking time to travel to new areas while on the way to an intended travel destination can help one find new places to stay at for the next time they want to take a trip. Side trips can often yield new and exciting places for one to explore either on their trip or to book a separate trip to experience fully.

Local travel is a great way to see your own area, while still feeling you are getting away. You can stay in local inns and hotels for much less than traveling out of the area you live in. No matter where you live, it is possible to enjoy this area as a vacation spot and learn more about your own local history and landmarks.

Bring a door stop with you when you are traveling if you are nervous about the hotel room’s security. Particularly if you are visiting overseas, some of the less expensive rooms do not have a dead bolt or chain lock. A door stop can be wedged between the door and the floor, offering a small deterrent to someone trying to get into your room.

If you are traveling overseas, find out whether the country you are in, offers a menu of the day. This option introduces you to inexpensive food, that is native to the area that you are visiting. Most menus have several courses that even include a glass or a bottle of wine. You can save a tremendous amount of money, eating out this way.

Look into restaurants in the area that you are going to be vacationing in. You can gather very useful information about the different places to eat through online travel sites where others who have dined there leave very helpful reviews that can save you time and money by avoiding the places with bad reviews.

When traveling by car, bus, or train always dress comfortably. You might find that you’re on the road for a few days and a comfortable outfit can make the trip more pleasant. You will also be able to sleep better if you are dressed in a relaxed fashion.

Try locating airlines that are not popular. Many smaller airlines do exist and many are great, cheaper alternatives to the larger more popular airlines. Many of these exist for international, but you can find some domestically as well. Try getting on a flight that stops at your destination, but goes a little further too.

Try to look into getting a suitcase alarm for your personal belongings. This way, if anyone tries to steal your luggage or bags when you are not looking, an alarm with go off, alerting you of the potential theft. These alarms are not expensive and are easy to find.

Before going on a road trip, make sure you have your car’s fluids checked (oil, coolant, brake fluid, ATF, windshield washer etc.) This not only saves you time by not having to do it sometime during the trip, but it can also help you avoid disastrous stalls along the way. Nothing is worse than being stuck in the middle of the road far from an auto shop during a road trip.

You do not have to worry about getting lost again when you are traveling if you follow the tips that have been provided in this article. You need to be responsible when you are traveling and be certain that you are not going somewhere that you really do not want to be.

Before a person is ready to travel, there are many things that need to be done, in a short amount of time, before he or she, actually gets going. Fortunately, by reading the tips in this article, you can better prioritize before you are about to start your travels, wherever that may be.

When traveling, travel as light as you possibly can. If you can, avoid checking baggage. This will help speed things up when you’re getting on and off planes. The less you take with you, the less chance you have of something getting lost or damaged in transit. If you can, try and travel with only a carry-on bag.

When planning a major trip, you should always purchase travel insurance. This protects you against loss on big ticket items like international flights, as well as helping you recover the costs of lost baggage or other emergency expenses. Travel insurance covers you if you have to cancel your trip or if your trip has to be ended early.

When you travel, pack lightly and just bring the essentials. The fewer things you bring, the less likely you are to forget something. Limit how many shoes you bring since they sometimes take up a lot of space and weigh more than your other clothing items.

Don’t forget to look up the time zones for where you will be traveling to and staying. Many people don’t realize that there is a significant time difference that will not only play a role in your sleep schedule, but also in your communication efforts to those still at home.

You may want to use the restroom before boarding the plane, if possible. You will be much more comfortable using a restroom that is on steady ground and that has a good amount of room to move around. Once on the plane, you never know how long someone will need the restroom and you don’t want to take that chance.

Spend more money on a better hotel than the one that’s cheap, but may be in a bad area. Cheap prices draw customers, but remember they also draw shady people too. Spend a few dollars extra and book a hotel that is in a better area with better reviews to boot.

Use noise-cancelling headphones. Because of all the engine and background noise on an airplane, you have to crank the volume on your headphones up dangerously high just to hear the music. Invest in a pair of noise-cancelling headphones, which cancel out the background noise and let you clearly hear your music at a reasonable volume. Even if you don’t listen to music, they are great for just reducing the noise.

If you have a motorcycle license, this vehicle can be great for taking day trips or road trips. A motorcycle moves quickly, has great gas efficiency, and will make your trip more fun, in general. It’s a great experience.

If you are traveling by air, it is vital that you remember to drink enough water. Travel is stressful, and the running around can deplete your body of water. The recirculated air on airplanes and in most airports will further dehydrate you. Buy a refillable water bottle after you go through security to help with hydration.

If you’re going on a road trip, make sure you print a copy of the directions. GPSs and cell phones are great help for navigating, but they can break easily. And you don’t want to be stuck in the middle of no where without any directions! It’s better to print the directions and not use them than to be lost.

To save money when booking flights, see if you can fly to or from an alternate airport. Airlines often charge much less for different routes, so check out all your options to see which one is the cheapest. Even if you have to rent a car, it could still be cheaper to fly into a different airport.

To adjust to a new time zone faster, stay awake until at least 8pm local time. Even if you feel like you must go to sleep, avoid going to bed too early when you travel across time zones.
